This page contains updates on what I'm currently doing with my life right NOW:
November 25, 2016: I've decided to eliminate my online business ventures and focus, instead, on one or two things: my full-time job and this personal blog.
This means that I will:
... close my online store Prep4Disaster;
... stop updating productivebee.com, my productivity blog;
... stop writing personal development eBooks.
I am eliminating those various endeavors because I've achieved nothing as a result of doing many things. I became unfocused. Distracted. They affected my mental well-being, which affected the quality of my personal and social life.
I am done. I will, instead, focus on my full-time job as a college counselor. I will also focus on sharing my experiences through this blog.
Thank you, Derek Sivers.
August 8, 2016: At this time I'm a bit confused about how I should move forward with my quest for financial independence, lol. In the past week, I've declared in my journal that I was going to write another book about Filipino immigration survival and success, but I've lost my motivation on that. I can't make up my mind. I'm easily distracted; easily discouraged—all because I'm focused on monetary needs. I asked myself: what is the best route, or business endeavor, to achieve financial independence? I know I sound greedy and superficial, but I've come to accept the importance of money in my life. I want to travel, buy nice things, help others, support causes, and all of those require money; hence I want more of it. If we can all be honest with ourselves, I think you'll agree with me too.
So, at this time, I revisited my prep4disaster online store to sell emergency kits. I'm updating the site this time using Weebly as my site editor instead of the expensive Shopify that I used before. I'm going to follow Derek Sivers's advise to focus on one thing, this thing, and truly develop it into a persuasive and appealing online store for disaster/emergency kits.
Derek emailed me a couple of days ago letting me know that he has added my now page onto his list of now pages. I got excited and inspired by his attention on my website. Thank you, Derek!
July 17, 2016: I got married on June 5, 2016 to Mary Grace Enriquez. I accepted an offer from Las Positas College to be one of their General Counselors. Since then, I have been trying to figure out what to do next with my life. One important aspect that keeps me preoccupied is experimenting on ways to generate passive income. I have a resume consulting service that I advertise on craigslist.com. I self-published an ebook titled "Higher Self-Confidence" that is currently being sold on amazon.com. And I created a blog about productivity that I hope to monetize. It is all hard work. I think of giving up everyday, but then I know I have to keep on improving my skills—whatever it is. The pay off will be good for me and my family someday.
April 26, 2016: It has been four months now since launching my very first online business. And since then I am yet to make one (1) sale.
I know marketing, which I did not have the skills, is a big component to any business success. But I was naive to think that Google Adsense would at least reach some potential customers and turn them into buyers. I spent money utilizing Google Adsense with no luck.
I also did not dedicate enough time to building my storefront. That is another big factor. I was relying on the Shopify's powerful program and service to get my storefront up and running. The reality is that visual and content are very important aspects of an online business, both of which I did not spend time on. I have been paying Shopify a monthly fee for its service.
At the end of the day, it was the time and energy that I was not able to give to my store that kept my business in the red until now.
I have to find a solution to this problem or close shop.
December 1, 2015: I started an online drop shipping store that sells Emergency Preparedness Kits. The process is easy:
Look for a drop shipping program with a product wholesaler. (Google wholesaler of a product that you're interested in.)
Apply to be a reseller of the company's product. (Contact the wholesaler.)
Acquire a web domain name. (I used Godaddy.com.)
Set up a business website. (Easier through shopify or Big Commerce. I went with Weebly.)
Get a fictitious business name license to be a legit business. (I'm in CA, might be different in other states.)
Apply for a reseller certificate through the Board of Equalization. (Again, this is the process in California.)
Start selling your product online.
December 2015: I self-published a 58-page eBook titled: Higher Self-Confidence through amazon.com. But I recently removed it off the self in order to make more edits. I've always wanted to be a writer. November 2015: I started Kent's Journal to share what I learned in life. I have my future kids in mind. I hope one day they will read and learn from what I wrote here.
